Physical Therapy Evaluations

Physical therapy evaluations can assess how your child’s motor skills are developing, and identify their strengths as well as any areas needing extra support.

Evaluations are recommended any time that caregivers have concerns about their infant’s development, and can include assessments related to:

  • Developmental delay

  • Premature birth

  • Complications during pregnancy and/or delivery

  • Head control and neck strength

  • Difficulty with tummy time

In addition, infants and children with several medical diagnoses can benefit from physical therapy evaluations (and ongoing treatment if needed). Mali’s specializes in working with infants and children diagnosed with:

  • Torticollis and/or plagiocephaly

  • Gross motor delay

  • Cerebral Palsy

  • Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy

  • Pediatric stroke

  • Brachial Plexus injury and other neuropathies

  • Genetic syndromes

  • Hypotonia

  • Toe walking

  • Gait deviations

  • Developmental Coordination Disorder

Physical Therapy Interventions

Ongoing physical therapy sessions, provided in-person or over digital formats (such as telerehab) focus on improving your child’s skills related to movement, posture, and participation in daily activities. Every child is unique in their needs, meaning each child’s physical therapy plan will be specifically designed to emphasize their individual strengths, address their current challenges, and help them meet their goals.

Consultations

Caregivers often have questions about their child’s development and can benefit from a consultation with a pediatric physical therapist for recommendations. This may occur prior to scheduling an evaluation with Mali or in conjunction with ongoing treatment.
