What is a pediatric physical therapist?

Pediatric physical therapists help infants and children develop their motor (movement) skills, working directly with kiddos and their families to maximize the child’s independence with movement and supporting their ability to participate in play, mobility, and other every-day activities.

What does “out-of-network” mean? And why is Pathways Pediatric Therapy choosing this model?

“Out-of-network”, or OON, providers are medical practitioners that do not have contracts with insurance companies. After a decade of working within the confines of the insurance system that was not designed with the special considerations needed for the pediatric population, Mali decided to end her individual insurance contracts in order to prioritize the goals and needs her clients and their families.

What are your rates?

Current pricing for pediatric PT services:

  • Evaluation (60-90 mins): $220

  • Ongoing PT session (approx. 55 mins): $150

  • In-person Consultation (30-90 mins): $85-200, depending on length and requested documentation

How many sessions will my child need?

The short answer is: it depends! Every child and family is unique in their needs and strengths, and the frequency and duration of sessions will be determined by many factors. Generally speaking, sessions are 1-2 session per week, and last about 60 minutes - although there are always exceptions. Some children respond quickly to therapy, whereas others take longer to get into a new routine and/or see significant changes; other children may benefit from long term support due to the complexity of their needs.

Do you bill insurance? How does payment work? Will I be able to get reimbursement from my insurance company?

Pathways Pediatric Therapy does not bill insurance companies directly. Payment for services is due at the time of the appointment, and is payable by check or credit card. After each session, you may request a detailed receipt to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement if you so chose. It is your responsibility as the subscriber to understand your benefits related to OON care. Please contact us if you would like a list of suggested questions to ask your insurance company to help you better understand your benefits.

Do I really need to have my child evaluated?

As a general statement: if you or your pediatrician have questions or concerns about your child’s motor development, then yes, an evaluation is a great idea. A thorough assessment of your child’s motor skills with Mali - who is a pediatric movement and developmental specialist - will help identify any areas of concern as well as areas of strength regarding your child’s development. Recommendations will be provided specific to your child’s current skills as well as considerations made for future developmental milestones as appropriate. In addition, Mali can help identify any other specialists or resources that could benefit your child.
